    Re: Fork n' Film Reply

    Good evening Esperanza,

Thank you! I appreciate your reception to feedback and williness to address my concerns! I apologize in advance for the length of this message!

This is a review of my most recent Fork n Film experience in NYC. I attended the 6:30pm showing of Ratatouille this past Sunday January 11. Overall, I had a good time, but the experience felt subpar.

Firstly, I need to critique the location, X-Golf in Brooklyn. I think it may be better to try to keep your locations in Manhattan. I know I dont speak for everyone- people travel from all over. However, many, including myself are traveling from NJ. I had to allow an extra 30- 45min to get to this location from Penn Station. Furthmore, a sports bar is NOT a good venue for this experience. They simply made a makeshift area where the virtual golf stations are, to show the film. It was horrible. Many of us were crammed on high top tables with barstools with no backing- very uncomfortable, and not acceptable considering the $200/person price tag (assuming you had no discounts). Furthermore it was extremely loud, given it was a sports bar. People were playing a game of pool barely 10ft behind me. We had to wear headphones, which gave me a headache as they were pressing up against my glasses along the side of my head. Even with the headphones, we could hear loud cheering as people watched a game nearby. It was extremely distracting.

I had gone to a matinee showing of Beauty & the Beast in July that was held at 33 Hotel NYC in Seaport. It was significantly better! No need for headphones, comfy plush chairs and sofas, and a private area just for Fork n Film. The experience felt well-rounded as the staff was able to greet us and also thank us and say goodbye. This time around at X-Golf, the film just started and then we all awkwardly just started leaving when the movie ended. No greeting or good-bye by staff.

Secondly, I have to critique the food. Overall, I enjoyed the meal and felt it paired well with the movie. However, a few things need to be improved. The last time I went to a Fork n Film showing, we were given popcorn, which was a nice snack between courses. This past Sunday for Ratatouille, we were not given popcorn. The mushroom dish, while delicious, felt like it was lacking something. I'm unsure if sparklers were used in the past, but they were not used this particular evening. Also the mushroom was, I believe, cut incorrectly as it was tough to bite into and almost "stringy", rather than tender as it should have been. The portions were small, which I expected, but a little too small, particularly the ratatouille, which should have been the star/signature dish as it's the name of the film. Again, without discounts, this experience costs $200. Furthermore, there was a sizable gap between the green drink and the serving of the ratatouille. This is where popcorn would have been beneficial, or something else. I would suggest having French bread and butter and/or fruit and cheese to have on the table as it would pair well with the film and be something to eat between courses. I also wish the omelet from the film was featured in the menu.

Third I need to critique a specific incident that happened this evening. While I applaud the staff for being kind and offering me a free drink, I feel it still needs to be discussed as it put a dent in the overall experience. I arrived at the venue early and was first on line. I was seated at a table in front of the high-top tables/barstools. I was comfortable and sipping my introductory drink. After several more people were seated, I was told I had to move to the high-top table/barstool area behind me. The reasoning was because I was there alone, and they needed to use the table for parties of 2 (the table sat 6 across, and they wanted to do 2-2-2), which, in fairness, originally made sense to me. I'm used to traveling and doing things on my own, that it's not uncommon for me to have to move to accommodate a couple or family trying to sit together. This happens to me at events, in movie theaters, airplanes, theme parks, etc. In this case, a couple was then seated where I originally was sitting. When the movie started and throughout its duration, there were 2 empty seats next to me at the bar. This indicated to me that there was absolutely NO REASON for me to move. Why couldn't they seat the couple at the uncomfortable high-top bar behind me? They had plenty of room and would have been able to sit together. Unless, if another group was a no-show, and thats why there were unoccupied seats next to me.

However, in general, this is a HUGE pet peeve of mine. As a solo traveler, I'm constantly asked to inconvenience myself and have a sub-par experience so that a family or a couple could have a perfect night. I try to be understanding, but when it happens often enough, especially in instances where it seems unnecessary, it's frustrating. I paid for my ticket just like everyone else. I should not need to have a lessened experience just because I'm there alone.

Lastly, I should say that despite my criticism, I overall had a good night. I think Fork n' Film has great potential if they can improve on the things I mentioned. I have a ticket for Princess & the Frog in March. I am hopeful for a better experience.

    Sincerely,
    Cara

    Hi Cara,

Thank you so much for taking the time to share such a detailed and thoughtful review of your experience with us. We truly value feedback like yours because it helps us see our events through the eyes of our guests and shows us exactly where we need to improve.

I want to sincerely apologize that this visit did not live up to the high standards you experienced at 33 Hotel NYC. We hear your concerns regarding the venue at X-Golf Brooklyn. We understand that the noise level and the seating arrangements were not ideal for a premium experience, and we are actively looking into more private and comfortable locations in Manhattan to avoid these types of distractions in the future.

Your notes on the food are also incredibly helpful. We want the meal to feel as substantial and magical as the film itself. I have shared your comments regarding the mushroom texture, the portion sizes, and the lack of popcorn or snacks during the gaps with our culinary team so they can refine the Ratatouille menu.

Most importantly, I want to address the fact that you were asked to move seats. I am so sorry that your experience as a solo guest felt compromised. You paid for a premium ticket and you deserve the exact same comfort and consideration as any other party. We never want our solo travelers to feel like an afterthought, and I will be addressing this specific incident with our floor management to ensure it does not happen again.

We are so glad that you are still planning to join us for The Princess and the Frog in March. We are committed to making sure that experience is much more aligned with the quality you expect from us.

    Good morning,

I would like to say that I am still excited for Princess and the Frog this upcoming Sunday, March 1 in NYC at 6:30pm. However,  it is only 2 days away and I still have not been told the location that was supposed to be sent 1 week in advance (Feb 22). Please advise what I should do. Thank you.

    Sincerely,
    Cara

    Sincerely,
    Cara

    Re: Fork n' Film Reply

    Good evening,

Thank you for getting back to me in regards to the location.

However, I should not have had to reach out to receive this information.  Last time I went to a Fork n Film where I left some negative feedback through this email thread (mid-January 2026), I receieved the location just 4 days in advance. This time around it was just 2 days in advance... and I had to reach out through this reply thread, which means otherwise I would not have found out. You are promising to notify guests 1 week in advance and should adhere to that. We should not have to track you down.

Furthermore, one of the things I complained about last time was the location. I specifically mentioned the absolutely horrible experience of hosting this event at a sports bar (X-golf in Brooklyn). I am extremely upset and disappointed to learn you did nothing to change the location. While I can understand these changes may take some time to organize, you had 7 weeks since my last visit to sort this out, and I know I wasn't the only person to complain.

I am bracing myself for an awful and disappointing experience once again and quite frankly may need to consider writing a public review to warn others. I would skip this entirely but I already paid quite a bit of money and to my understanding, there are no refunds.

I tried to be kind and give you another chance, as well as protect your small business by not saying something negative publicly, but I am upset as it appears you did nothing to improve.

    Sincerely,
    Cara

    Sincerely,
    Cara

    Re: Fork n' Film Reply

    Hi Cara,

Thank you for your honest feedback. First, we want to sincerely apologize for the delay in getting the location details to you. You are absolutely right - we aim to provide that information a week in advance, and we fell short of that mark this time. We completely understand how frustrating it is to have to reach out for information that should have been delivered to you automatically.

Regarding the venue, we want to be fully transparent with you: we are actively listening. We have taken your previous feedback (and the feedback of others) to heart and are currently in the process of scouting and securing new locations that better align with the premium experience we strive to provide.

However, because we operate under fixed-term contracts with our current partners, it is often difficult for us to exit those agreements immediately once they are finalized. While it may appear that no changes have been made, please trust that the groundwork for those improvements is happening behind the scenes.

We truly appreciate you giving us another chance. It’s customers like you who help us grow, and we genuinely hope that despite the venue, the film and culinary experience over the weekend brought you some joy.

    Warm regards,
    Sam

    Sincerely,
    Cara

    Warm regards,
    Sam

Why couldn't they seat the couple at the uncomfortable high-top bar behind me? They had plenty of room and would have been able to sit together.
